About Selimiye Mosque

The Selimiye Mosque was built by Sinan for Sultan Selim II between 1568 and 1575. Its single dome, comparable in size to Hagia Sophia’s, rests on eight piers over an open interior full of light, and its four minarets are among the slenderest ever built. Dress modestly and avoid prayer times.
