The Pera Palace opened in 1892 to welcome passengers arriving on the Orient Express, and quickly became the city’s most glamorous hotel. Agatha Christie stayed in room 411, now kept as a memorial, and Atatürk’s room is preserved as a museum. The restored Belle Époque lobby, the Orient Bar and the patisserie are worth a visit even if you are not staying.
