About Historic stations: Sirkeci & Haydarpaşa
Sirkeci station, opened in 1890, was the terminus of the Orient Express from Paris; its façade and waiting hall are worth a look, and the Marmaray now stops below it. Across the water, Haydarpaşa station, opened in 1908, was the gateway to Anatolia and the Middle East; its castle-like building on the Kadıköy shore is one of the city’s landmarks, though long-distance trains no longer depart from it.
