İstanbulkart is the city’s rechargeable transport card, valid on the metro, trams, buses, Metrobus, funiculars, the Marmaray and the city ferries. Buy it and top it up at the yellow machines in stations and piers; one card can be used by several people travelling together, tapped once for each. Fares are lower than single tickets, and transfers within a short time are discounted.
